Online meeting and exchange of experiences
Focusing on the establishment of a pilot national network of surplus social food supply in Cyprus, the FOODPrint team has organized a meeting with the non-profit organization Boroume Gr, whose main mission is to reduce food waste and combat malnutrition in Greece.
The meeting took place online with the participation of the head of Boroume Gr Alexandros Theodoridis who shared with the Cypriot partners of the LIFE – FOOD Print program the good practices and experiences for 10 years in Greece.
The online meeting took place on Thursday, November 11, 2021.
Among those who took part in the meeting were Natasa Ioannou and Victor Pallikaras – Friends of the Earth of Cyprus who developed the initiative to create a FOODPrint Collaboration Platform between Donors and Recipients mainly from social welfare associations, Maria Takka – Paprounas Sustainable Development who referred to the consultations with the local authorities and Natalia Georgiou who represents the Department of Environment.
The meeting was organized and coordinated by journalist Kyriakos Pieridis, director of Opinion and Action.
Theodoridis analyzed the way in which the Greek non-profit organization develops its initiatives, forming a nationwide network of business donors, such as bakeries, hotels, supermarkets, food chains, as well as over 400 non-profit organizations that receive the food. Recipients of food take the responsibility to follow the rules of hygiene to deliver it to those people in need.
The FOODPrint team referred to the experiences gained in Cyprus, since for the first time such a pilot Cooperation Platform is being created.
The exchange of views on issues of legislation was of great value as European Directives for the prevention of food waste are being promoted and will be implemented in the coming years in all Member States, as well as further initiatives for the participation of companies with a certification mark for non-waste food.
The two sides agreed to stay in constant communication by exchanging the rich audiovisual and printed material they have created and expanding their cooperation in the framework of the FOODPrint campaign.
