The Federation of Employers & Industrialists (OEB) with its partner organisations of the Life – FOODPrint programme, presented the first FOODPrint Awards to Cypriot businesses that stood out for their efforts to reduce their food waste.

The ceremony took place on 7 June 2022 in Nicosia.

In particular, three companies were awarded for developing and implementing good practices in terms of prevention of creation and rational management of organic waste generated.

In the Hospitality sector, the award was given to Louis Hotels Plc Ltd, which:

• 70% of the food is prepared in front of the customer, resulting in significant savings of raw materials.
• Smaller quantities of preparations are prepared, with greater frequency, in order to achieve better management of raw materials and
• reduce the amount of waste produced.
• electronic recording of food stocks is carried out immediately after receipt and before a new order is placed for the purchase of products.
• training is provided for staff on the rational management of raw materials and methods of reducing food waste

Also, in the Hospitality sector, an award was given to Amathus Beach Hotel, which among others:
reuse of excess raw materials through the reformulation of various preparations

• composting of the food waste produced
• various actions and events are organised on the subject of food waste and improving the management of food raw materials.
• information is provided to the company’s customers on reducing food waste through messages and signs posted in various parts of the company.
• training is provided to staff on better management of raw materials and methods to reduce food waste.

In the Manufacturing sector, the award was given to Giannos Motis Catering Services Ltd, which:
For the last 2 years has been supplying food left over from its activities to families in need in the Municipality of Aglantzia.
participates and organizes various activities and events on the topic of food waste and improving the management of food raw materials.
informs its customers about the reduction of food waste through various messages.

conducts training sessions for staff on better management of raw materials and methods to reduce food waste.
